GARDEN CITY, NY - Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman and Nassau Community College President Jermaine Williams in collaboration announced that the Comptroller’s Office will be conducting audits of Nassau Community College. The Comptroller’s Office has already begun a collaborative process with the College and will seek to identify best practices, financial and cost savings opportunities, improvements to internal controls, and reduction of redundancies.
The Comptroller’s Office sent an audit engagement letter initiating these audits:
• One audit will include an examination of the Community College’s fund balance and overall financial condition.
• One audit will include a review of related parties policies and controls (nepotism).
"At the heart of the hub, Nassau Community College is one of the County’s key resources and we share President Williams’ commitment to ensuring it is known as one of the best community colleges in the country" said Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman. “The pandemic has been an immediate challenge for all levels of government, including the College, and the team in place is working diligently to lead the institution forward. These audits are critical to ensuring that Nassau Community College can thrive now and into the future for both its students and Nassau County.”
"As Nassau County’s sole Community College, it is essential that we are supporting the needs of our students, faculty, staff, and all Nassau County community residents. We are grateful for the partnerships we have formed to effectively address those needs,” said Jermaine F. Williams, President, Nassau Community College. “The pandemic has certainly brought some challenges and we look forward to continuing to work with the County to advance the College, in an effort to increase enrollment and ensure all NCC students leave here with a solid foundation for success and a credential of economic value that helps them become civically engaged, contributing and critically thinking members of their communities.”
