MINEOLA - Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman announced that the Comptroller’s Office has ensured Nassau County participation in the National Association of Counties (NACo) Live Healthy Discount Program. The free program provides a variety of helpful discounts for County residents, including:
No-cost Prescription Discount Program
- Save money at 66,000 pharmacies at home and nationwide
- Save an average of 30% on the retail price of prescription medications
Low-cost health discounts nationwide
- Discounts on vision services, dental, hearing aids and screenings, diabetes supplies, prepaid lab work and more.
“In these challenging times, we need to find every way to save money in our household budgets as we do in our County budget. This program will help save people money, plain and simple," said Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman. "For those who don’t have medical coverage and are in need of prescription medication, this card could be a lifeline. The discount card has real benefits for our more than 1.3 million residents -- and the discounts also apply to many pet medications as well. The high cost of prescription drugs is a longstanding challenge for so many, and having this program available to our community is a step in the right direction that will have a positive impact in the lives of our taxpayers and residents."
“This is a great program for County residents who are uninsured or under-insured to help save people money on their prescriptions,” said Tracey Edwards, Long Island Regional
Director of the NAACP. “Working with the Comptroller, we’re raising awareness so that people can save money in a time when they need it most.”
“COVID-19 has exposed what we already knew: Huge equity gaps are ever present on Long
Island. Jack and his team understand these gaps exist and how they affect our communities,” said Theresa Sanders, President and CEO of the Urban League of Long Island. “This free discount card will go a long way in mitigating the cost of medication and helping residents save money.”
"It's really vital that our families don't have to choose between paying this month's heating bill or getting the critical medications they need to stay healthy and remain alive,” said Jacob Dixon, Founder and CEO of Choice for All. “The launch of the Live Healthy program will be able to help residents (and pet owners) across Nassau County who need assistance when purchasing their medications."
Residents simply present their NO-COST discount card to save on prescriptions at more than 66,000 participating pharmacies across the country. Residents can pick up a card online. The Live Healthy Discount Card is available for residents with and without insurance and saves consumers on prescriptions not covered by insurance.
The Live Healthy Discount Program is provided in partnership with the National Association of Counties (NACo).
"We are pleased to help counties alleviate residents' everyday health expenses, especially when many families are struggling to keep up with rising health care costs," said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase .
Unlike many card programs, there is no enrollment cost or membership fee. The cardholder pays the negotiated discount price or the pharmacy's retail price, whichever is lower, with average discounts at 30 percent.
Across the United States, 9 out of 10 pharmacies participate in this program, including many in Nassau County. Discounts on prescriptions for pets are also included.
“As a lifelong pet owner, we all know how we’ll do anything, at any time of day or night, when our pets need it - and yet those bills can be crushing, and usually without any hope or relief,” continued Schnirman. “Nobody should be forced to choose between the health of their pets and putting food on the kitchen table each night. Every little bit helps.”
Savings may vary by drug and by pharmacy. This is NOT insurance and cannot be used in conjunction with any health insurance. Discounts are only available at participating pharmacies. Participating locations can be found online at www.LiveHealthyCard.com.
