Nassau County, NY – August 6, 2020 – Hopping on the popular pop-up drive-in movie trend, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced that the County is rolling out a drive-in movie night series with FREE showings of family favorites under the stars on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout August. In an effort to provide some entertainment for families while so many Nassau County residents are still without power following Tropical Storm Isaias, a soft launch will begin tonight with a showing of Angry Birds 2 (weather permitting). With food trucks onsite, movie goers can also get their fix of summertime snacks and movie theater staples.
“Nostalgic drive-ins, more than half a century after their heyday, are having a revival across the country and Nassau County is happy to embrace the trend with this series of free movie nights under the stars,” said County Executive Laura Curran. “While I am pushing for answers from PSEG and doing everything I can to get thousands of residents back on the power grid, we are jumpstarting this series to provide a little entertainment for families – especially those without power and with restless little ones at home.”
Showings will take place at Eisenhower Park’s new drive-in theater located at parking lot 6A - with space for up to 120 cars. Entry to the parking lot will begin at 7:00pm with the night’s movie showing beginning at dusk (approximately 8:30pm).
