[ARCHIVED] East Meadow Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

Sherlock

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced a joint federal and state investigation leading to charges against an East Meadow man for downloading and possessing videos of young children engaging in sexual acts.

Daniel Sherlock, 25, was arrested by DA investigators and members of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and New York State Police last night, and charged with three counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child as a Sexually Motivated Felony (a D felony) and three counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child (an E felony). Sherlock was arraigned today before Nassau County District Court Judge Scott Siller and conditionally released to probation.

If convicted, Sherlock faces a maximum of seven years in prison and mandatory registration on the New York State Sex Offender Registry. His next court date is July 8.

“Child pornography is among the most harmful kinds of exploitation a child can face and we will do everything we can to hold those involved with this despicable material accountable,” DA Rice said. “I thank our federal and state partners in this case and urge anyone aware of child pornography being traded or produced to contact authorities immediately.”

“Nothing is more painful for law enforcement officers than crimes that target children” said James T. Hayes, Jr., special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations New York. “We are committed to partnering with all prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in the metropolitan area to take predators off the streets.”

Investigators found Sherlock in possession of at least three videos of girls who appear to be between the ages of nine and 12 and engaged in sexual activity either alone or with a male adult. The filenames of the videos label the ages of the girls in the videos as 10, 13 and 14 years old.

The case is being prosecuted by ADA Jeremy Glicksman, Chief of DA Rice’s Money Laundering & Cyber Crimes Unit, and ADA Anne Donnelly, Deputy Chief of DA Rice’s Organized Crime and Rackets Bureau. Sherlock was represented by the Legal Aid Society.

The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
