LEGISLATOR FORD HONORS CATHY TIERNEY AT THE
21ST ANNUAL WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH AWARDS CEREMONY
On Monday March 25th, The Nassau County Legislature took the time out to honor Women’s History Month with the 21st Annual “Women Trailblazers” Award Ceremony and Celebration. Legislator Ford chose to honor East Rockaway resident, Mrs. Cathy Tierney
Cathy has served on the Executive PTA board at both Rhame Ave Elementary School and the East Rockaway High School in almost all positions including Co President at both schools. She also served on the East Rockaway Education Foundation as a Director and Treasurer until very recently.
Fundraising is a huge part of these organizations’ success, and the one Cathy is most proud of is her part in establishing the 5k run for the Education Foundation. It has been one of most successful fundraisers year after year and she is happy to still be a part of it.
Through the years Cathy has volunteered for many committees including technology for the schools, facilities, budget advisory and interviewing potential administrators. Traveling to Albany and lobbying on behalf of the students of East Rockaway’s fair share of school aid was her most memorable.
When you ask Cathy about herself, she confesses “one of the greatest pleasures in raising my boys has been my involvement in the East Rockaway School District as a member of the PTA since my oldest was in Kindergarten”. Not only did we take pride in the work we did but I made some of the closest friends that I have ever had”.
“I have seen the East Rockaway School district achieve great success in the past several years and am so proud that I have been able to enjoy and take pride in a piece of that success”, said Cathy
Cathy has lived in East Rockaway for the past 22 years with her husband Jeff and their 2 boys James and Brian ages 19 and 17.
“It was a privilege to honor Cathy as my “Trailblazer!” said Legislator Ford.
