MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County Executive Laura Curran today made the following statement regarding the NYCLU’s press conference at the Theodore Roosevelt Legislative and Executive Building:
“I hear the concerns of dedicated advocates today. I urge them to join me in demanding the President of the United States end his government shutdown. We need a chorus of strong and loud voices directed to the President calling for him to end his shutdown.
“To the President: We have over 15,000 Long Islanders affected by your 34 day federal government shutdown.
“We need real solutions that directly impact our immigrant communities. Washington needs a sensible compromise on DACA, TPS, and border security. That’s what will end this shutdown!
“Nassau County is committed to protecting all our residents and will work directly with all communities to ensure their safety and well-being.
“Let me make this clear to our immigrant communities in Nassau County: I will not allow anything or anyone to interfere with access to medical care at the hospital.
“Anything to the contrary and we will take immediate action.”
