MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is proud to announce that Nassau County is a flagship sponsor for the American Cancer Society’s 25th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk taking place this Sunday, October 21st at Jones Beach State Park.
“Many of us know too well, the suffering experienced by those who have faced the affects of breast cancer,” said County Executive Curran. “I encourage all Nassau residents to join us Sunday as we support this mighty effort and help us celebrate 25 years of progress in work towards defeating this disease.”
Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the United States (except skin cancer) and is second to only lung cancer, as a cause of cancer death to women. Twenty-five years ago, 2,500 Long Islanders took action and walked at Long Island’s first ever Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. Long Island quickly grew into being the largest Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in the country. Each year Long Islanders continue to raise millions of dollars annually directly funding lifesaving research, promoting education, early detection, as well as providing comprehensive patient support for those in need of it.
“Join Team Nassau in the fight against breast cancer,” said Curran. “I hope to see you there!”
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. in Parking Field 5 and a rolling start will be between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. For more information please visit: www.MakingStridesWalk.org/LongIsland.
