MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Massapequa man was sentenced today to 12 years in prison with five years of post-release supervision for charges related to selling heroin and other drug paraphernalia out of his basement apartment.

Windsor Coleman, 28, was found convicted by a jury on April 3 of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree (an A-I Felony), Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree (an A-II Felony), two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree (an A-II Felony) and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (a B Felony).

The trial, before Supreme Court Justice William Donnino, lasted one week and the jury deliberated for approximately two hours.

The NCDA recommended a sentence of 24 years in prison.

“We are in the middle of a nationwide heroin epidemic and dealers like Windsor Coleman are poisoning our communities,” DA Singas said. “Today’s message is clear: if you are selling heroin, we will use every tool available to law enforcement to arrest and prosecute you.”

DA Singas said on April 1, 2016, the defendant was arrested following a joint, long-term narcotics investigation by the Nassau County Police Department’s Narcotics Vice Squad and the Nassau County District Attorney’s office. The defendant used his basement apartment at 71 Monroe Avenue in Massapequa as a personal drug mill to package and distribute narcotics. Over the course of the investigation, Coleman sold approximately 100 grams of heroin to investigators on several occasions.

During the arrest, investigators found more than 132 grams of heroin, more than 140 grams of cocaine, thousands of empty glassine envelopes, rubber bands used to package heroin, a digital scale, and a grinder used to mix quantities of narcotics with cutting agents inside the apartment.

At the time of his arrest, Coleman was on parole for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, for selling heroin out of the same apartment to investigators from the Suffolk County Police Department.

Deputy Bureau Chief Christiana McSloy and Assistant District Attorney Lee Genser of DA Singas’ Special Operations, Narcotics and Gangs Unit prosecuted the case. Windsor is represented by Robert Schalk, Esq.
