[ARCHIVED] Mangano: President’s Week Craft And Activities At Garvies Point Museum And Preserve

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County will host President’s Week Crafts and Activities from Saturday, February 15th through Saturday, February 22nd at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. The event schedule is as follows:

Bird Feeder Craft

Saturday, February 15: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Make your own bird feeder using recycled materials so you can enjoy observing our feathered friends all year long!

Film: National Audubon Society's Cardinals Up Close (50 min.)

North American Native American Games

Tuesday, February 18: Northeast (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) & Plains (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Wednesday, February 19: Northwest (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) & Southwest (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

All are invited to come learn and play authentic Native American games. Each program will feature games from different regions of the U.S.

Film: The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle (21 mins.)

Film: Princess Scargo and the Birthday Pumpkin (30 mins.)

Arrowhead Necklace Craft

Thursday, February 20: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., ongoing

Embellish your arrowhead necklace with your own hand crafted clay beads.

Film: Plants and the Cherokee (30 mins.)

Native American Pottery Making

Friday, February 21: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., every half hour

Create your own clay pot inspired by primitive Native American technology.

Film: Eyewitness: Mammal (35 mins.)

Silver Wolf Dancers – Venture Crew 0

Saturday, February 22: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Participatory Native American style exhibition dancing plus Iroquois Friendship song performed by the Venture scouts with the Boy Scouts.

Garvies Point Museum and adjoining 62-acre preserve are located at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. Museum General Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 5-12 yrs. Crafts and programs appropriate for all ages. All crafts require $5.00 material fee. Proceeds go to the Friends of Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. Programs included with museum general admission.
