Bail was set at $750,000 cash or bond. Taylor, who pleaded not guilty, faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted on the top charge. He is due back in court Nov. 25.
“The defendant is alleged to have nearly killed his victim, by hitting her in the head with a toilet tank cover and stabbing her multiple times in the head, back, neck and hands,” said Acting DA Madeline Singas. “Domestic violence is far too common in society and we will do everything in our power to put abusers in prison.”
Acting DA Singas said that at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Oct. 3, the defendant was arguing with the 53-year old victim, when he picked up a toilet tank cover and struck the woman in her head, knocking her unconscious. Taylor then stabbed the woman several times in her head, neck and back while the victim was unconscious. The victim awoke and put her hands up to defend herself and the defendant continued stabbing her, causing lacerations and fractured bones in both of the woman’s hands.
The victim was able to flee and call 911. The Nassau County Police Department arrived and the defendant fled to the basement. Responding officers attempted to contact the defendant for two hours and the NCPD Bureau of Special Operations unit found the defendant hiding in a basement wall space and placed him under arrest. The victim was treated at a nearby hospital for her injuries.
Assistant District Attorney Anthony Perri of Acting DA Singas’ Special Victims Bureau is prosecuting the case. Taylor is represented by Michael Berger, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
