Aurnree McBrown and Quincy Lewis stole PlayStation, iPad and other electronics in January gunpoint robbery
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the indictment today of two men in connection with a Roosevelt home invasion that occurred in January.
Aurnree McBrown, 47, and Quincy Lewis, 30, were arraigned on the following grand jury charges:
• Three Counts of Robbery in the 1st Degree (a B violent felony)
• Three Counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree (a B felony)• Robbery in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony)
• Burglary in the 2nd Degree (a C felony)• Two Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (a C felony)
• Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree (an A misdemeanor)• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (an A misdemeanor)
If convicted of the top charge, McBrown and Lewis face a maximum of 25 years in prison. They are due back in court on October 16. Acting Supreme Court Justice Teresa Corrigan ordered the bail be continued for McBrown in the amount of $250,000 cash or bond. Bail was continued for Lewis at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash, which he posted earlier this year.
“The defendants are alleged to have brazenly kicked open the victim’s door, showed him a gun and knife and then stole his possessions,” Acting DA Singas said. “The defendants managed to flee the scene, but thanks to the hard work of the Nassau County Police Department two of them have been captured.”
Acting DA Singas said that on January 12, the defendants and two unapprehended accomplices kicked in the door of a Roosevelt home at 1:30 a.m. The defendants, armed with a semi-automatic handgun and a knife, forced the victim to his bedroom and stole a PlayStation 4 video game system, an Apple iPad, a laptop, speakers and other items exceeding $1,700 in total value. One of the men fired a gunshot while in the home.
McBrown, Lewis and the accomplices fled the scene in a 2003 Malibu and were spotted by Nassau County Police Department First Precinct Officers who were responding to the crime. The defendants refused to stop and continued on Hausch Boulevard when the car struck a curb. The subjects fled the vehicle. McBrown was arrested on the grounds of Roosevelt High School after the crash. Lewis was arrested on January 25.
Assistant District Attorney Veronica Guariglia of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. McBrown is represented by Michael Berger, Esq. and Lewis is represented by Ronald Bekoff, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
