Nassau County and Comptroller George Maragos were presented with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The GFOA award is for excellence in the County’s 2013 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) which was issued in 2014.
According to the GFOA, “the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
The Certificate was presented to County Comptroller George Maragos “as the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFT.”
"The GFOA continues to recognize the excellent work the financial professionals in my office produce year after year,” Comptroller Maragos said. “For the fourth consecutive year the County’s financial statements have been judged by an impartial panel and found to have met the highest standards for accuracy and ‘spirit of full disclosure.’ I want to congratulate the entire staff of the Comptroller’s Accounting Division for their outstanding dedication and professionalism.”
Nassau County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report includes general-purpose financial statements, as well as the independent auditor’s report prepared by Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
