Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced the sentencing today of a Suffolk man for stealing more than $40,000 from a CVS in Freeport where he worked as store manager.
Scott Crafa, 42, was sentenced today to 10 days in jail, three years of probation, and 80 hours of community service by Nassau County Court Judge Alan Honorof. As a result of DA Rice’s prosecution, Crafa made full restitution in the amount of $41,251.05 to his employer before sentencing. Crafa pleaded guilty in September before Judge Honorof to Petit Larceny (an A misdemeanor).
“Employees who steal from their places of work not only harm their employers, they also cause cost increases for goods and services that hurt everyone,” DA Rice said. “Thanks to the hard work of the Freeport Police Department and Nassau County Police Department’s Crimes Against Property Squad, this defendant has been held accountable for betraying the trust of his employer and the customers they serve.”
DA Rice said that between March 26 and March 30, Crafa, while employed as store manager of a Freeport CVS location, failed to make bank deposits causing a loss for the store in excess of $40,000.
The money was discovered missing after Crafa failed to make the nightly deposits and the store realized the deposit totals were short.
After an investigation by the Freeport Police Department and Nassau County Police Department’s CAP Squad, Crafa was arrested on April 1 at his place of employment.
Assistant District Attorney Rachael Whalen of DA Rice’s County Court Bureau is prosecuting the case. Crafa is represented by Joseph Crafa, Esq.
