SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2022
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
2935 Merrick Rd., Wantagh, NY 11793
Join Legislator Steve Rhoads, NYSDEC Staff, Nassau County Public Works and Long Island Invasive Species Management Area (LIISMA) to help keep Wantagh Mill Pond beautiful. Volunteers are needed and all are welcome to join Legislator Rhoads to remove invasive water chestnut plants from Wantagh Mill Pond. Last year, over 100 bags of water chestnut (approx. 3,000 lbs.) were removed from the pond.
Everyone is welcome to volunteer! Volunteers will need to bring a bucket and gloves, your own kayak or canoe and a life jacket. Volunteers should also make sure to bring drinking water and sun protection. A limited number of kayaks will be available for those that do not have their own.
If you are interested in volunteering, you MUST pre-register by emailing your name and contact info to fwfish1@dec.ny.gov and use WaterChestnut 2022 in the subject line.
