LEGISLATOR RHOADS ANNOUNCES PROJECTS IN WANTAGH AND FREEPORT

On August 5th, Legislator Steve Rhoads and the Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved two Community Revitalization Projects (CRPs) for the Wantagh Union Free School District, and the Freeport Public School District.

The first project, for the Wantagh Union Free School District, authorized the County Executive to execute an inter-municipal agreement with the school district to procure automated external defibrillators, (AED’s), with lockboxes. The County will provide $11,000 in Capital Funds to the school district for the purchase of these life-saving devices. The devices will be made available for use by the Wantagh Little League which plays the majority of its games on District fields. In the past two years, Rhoads has also secured grant funding for the Seaford and Bellmore Fire Departments to purchase AED’s.

The project for the Freeport Public School District involves the installation of electronic signs at two schools in the district. The inter-municipal agreement will authorize the County to provide $48,000 in Capital Funds to the Freeport District to install electronic message signs which will assist in communicating vital information to students and the public at the John W. Dodd Middle School and the Caroline G. Atkinson School.

Following the vote, Legislator Rhoads provided this comment: “The safety of our children is a top priority, and I will always continue to look for ways to partner with other levels of government to further that objective.”
