OFFICE OF THE NASSAU COUNTY COMPTROLLER ANNOUNCES SIXTH ANNUAL COMPTROLLER’S ENTREPRENUERIAL CHALLENGE
Event Gives High School Students Opportunity to Develop and Present Business Ideas
MINEOLA, NY – The Office of the Nassau County Comptroller will host its sixth annual Comptroller’s Entrepreneurial Challenge (Challenge) on April 25th at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building.
The Challenge consists of student-led teams from public schools across the county creating a fictional organization’s comprehensive business plan and elevator pitch. As of today, 19 schools have registered, and the final deadline to do so is February 27, 2018.
“This year, the Challenge is focused on Civic Innovation, and the goal is to inspire students to create a sound financial plan that will also make a positive impact in their communities.” Jack Schnirman, Nassau County Comptroller said. “Students should embrace their creativity to develop a company or nonprofit that is both innovative and socially conscious.”
This year’s Challenge features two categories: Social Entrepreneurship and Technology. Teams of five students filling the Executive roles of a start-up technology company or community-oriented nonprofit will develop an organizational plan and make a presentation to a panel of judges. They will lay out all aspects of their organization, from funding and location to day-to-day operations and long-term goals.
“By updating the Challenge to have two categories this year, we’re giving students with different backgrounds and passions an opportunity to get involved,” Schnirman said. “Any young person can make a difference in their community, and the Challenge is a great format for our future leaders.”
