Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads helped secure funding for the Seaford Fire District, for the purchase of life saving devices. With the funds, the district will be able to purchase automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and Physio-Control Life Packs. The equipment will be used on residents and visitors to Nassau County in the event of an emergency.
“The members of the Seaford Fire Department put their lives on the line every day to protect the lives and property of the residents of Seaford,” said Legislator Rhoads. “As a Legislator and a firefighter myself, I am committed to working with District Commissioners to ensure sure that our emergency personnel have the training and equipment that is so vital to their live-saving work. Our first responders and the residents they serve deserve nothing less.”
The ALS Life Packs will be put into service on both of Seaford’s ALS Ambulances. Additionally, the AED’s have been distributed to each apparatus, chief’s vehicle and medic car and 10 SFD medics will be carrying the AED’s in their personal vehicles.
“By assigning the AED’s directly to medical personnel, we will reduce response time greatly in the event of cardiac arrest” stated Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Robert Powell. “Thanks to Legislator Steve Rhoads' efforts, we now have these devices distributed throughout our fire district allowing members to respond directly to the scene of a medical emergency”.
