Tom & Annahid Hopkins, husband & wife, allegedly failed to pay more than $60k in personal income taxes
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Great Neck doctor and his wife, a pharmacist, have been arraigned today on charges that they failed to file tax returns for three years in a row and owe New York State more than $60,000.
Doctor Tom Hopkins, 51, and pharmacist Annahid Hopkins, 38, appeared before Nassau County First District Court Judge William Hohauser and were each charged with three counts of Criminal Tax Fraud in the 3rd Degree and one count of Repeated Failure to File Personal Income and Earnings Taxes (all E felonies). They were released on their own recognizance and are due back in court on May 6. If convicted, the Hopkins face a maximum possible sentence of 1-1/3 to four years in prison for any of the counts.
“Medical professionals should know that a loss in taxpayer revenue can hurt public health and safety, but these defendants are now alleged to have cheated New York State out of more than $60,000 over the course of several years,” DA Singas said. “My office will continue to work with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to ensure that public funds are protected and everybody pays their fair share.”
DA Singas said that a joint investigation with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance revealed that the Hopkins allegedly failed to file income tax returns for tax years 2010, 2011 and 2012, despite owing taxes in the amount of $63,198. The couple’s combined annual incomes during these years, respectively, were at least $400,000, $350,000 and $125,000.
Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins surrendered to DA Investigators on March 30 and April 1, respectively.

The charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
