[ARCHIVED] MANGANO ANNOUNCES AUTUMN NATURE HIKE AT THE MUTTONTOWN PRESERVE

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the Muttontown Preserve will present a guided autumn nature hike on Sunday, November 9th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Spend a crisp fall afternoon experiencing the sights and sounds of the season at Muttontown Preserve. Explore the many fascinating parts of the preserve on the guided hike: woodland trails, meadows, upland woods and wetlands, as well as examine the geology of the area.

Comprising 550 acres of fields, woodlands, ponds and estate grounds, Muttontown is Nassau County’s largest nature preserve and one of the most beautiful settings on Long Island. The preserve includes miles of marked nature trails with local wildflowers, trees, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Muttontown also has several structures, including the renovated Chelsea estate, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Long Island Press has named Muttontown Preserve the “Best Nature Walk” on Long Island.

The walk is $5.00 and begins at the Bill Paterson Nature Center on the preserve. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. Muttontown Preserve is located on Muttontown Lane, south of 25A, in East Norwich. For more information please call: (516) 571-8500.
