[ARCHIVED] 08-19-2014 Uniondale Man Found Guilty of All Charges in Fatal Shooting Near Church

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced that a Nassau County Judge found a man guilty today of all charges related to a 2013 shooting that left another man dead near a Uniondale church where parishioners were gathered for Sunday services.

Jonathan Mack, 20, of Uniondale, was found guilty in a bench trial by Nassau County Court Judge George Peck of Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A felony) and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony). The trial lasted 10 days. Mack faces 25 years to life in prison. He is due back in court for sentencing on Oct. 8.

“This defendant cruelly ended the life of a young man in a shocking display of violence in broad daylight, with church services taking place nearby,” DA Rice said. “This case is a reminder that the scourge of gun violence plaguing our communities can occur at any place, at any time, and requires a united effort by prosecutors and law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods safe.”

On June 30, 2013 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Mack got into an argument with a woman on Hill Street in Uniondale. The victim, Isaac Andrews, 34, of Uniondale, approached Mack while the argument was taking place. Mack then pulled out a handgun and fired three shots, all of which struck Andrews.

As Andrews fell, Mack fired a fourth shot, striking the victim in the upper back. Mack then fled the scene. Andrews was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Mack was found in Florida and arrested on July 30, 2013 by the Nassau County Police Department and returned back to New York for prosecution.

Assistant District Attorney Daryl Levy of DA Rice’s Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Mack is represented by Brian Carmody, Esq.
