For over 18 years, the Office for the Physically Challenged (OPC) has been a leader in advocating for the civil rights of people with disabilities in many areas.
Achievements & Recognitions
Membership and leadership among the more than 2,400 counties comprising the National Association of Counties (NACo) where we co-authored a nationally-distributed Section 504 Compliance Manual and helped write NACo's platform policy on disability issues.
Invitations by the president's committee on Employment of People with Disabilities to present models of ADA compliance and policy initiatives to experts representing counties, cities, and towns nationwide.
Participation with distinguished organizations such as the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, New York State Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities, Nassau County Bar Association, Long Island Association, Applied Technology Center of The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and others in forums to elevate public understanding of the importance to society of full and equal participation by citizens with disabilities.
